From the "What the hell?" files
I was just at Wal-Mart this morning. I ran into Mrs. Gumpenburger. To those that don't know her: I went to all of grade school and high school with her son, Josh. Josh was picked on a lot in grade school, however, never by me. My mom even ran into Josh a couple of years ago and he was quite friendly, called her by name and asked about me. So this morning, I see Mrs. Gumpenburger picking out baby food, which is also what I was doing. I decide that I'm going to be nice and say hi since Josh did that to my mom, so I say, "Hi, Mrs. Gumpenburger!" She barely looks at me and says, "Oh, hi." So I continue... "I'm Stacy Reed." She says very dismissively, "I know who you are." So I keep going, "Are you shopping for a grandkid?" Dismissive again, "Yeah, I've got one." Then she mummbles some other stuff and finally asked me something, although she didn't pretend in the slightest to be interested. "So, is that your only kid?" "No, I've got another riding around with my mom here somewhere." On cue, my mom came around the corner and we went on our way. When we were back in the car I told mom that I spoke to Mrs. Gumpenburger and she wasn't very nice to me. My mom was like, "Yeah, I tried talking to her before too, she isn't very nice." She's a freakin' grade school teacher!! She is supposed to pretend to be nice!! I HATE it when people are mean for no reason. I guess I will ignore her like my mom, or perhaps I'll talk her arm off next time. I'll be so nice it hurts. What the hell?
